The Disneyland measles outbreak.

Five things to know about the Disneyland measles outbreak.
According to Forbes.com. the number of measles cases linked to the outbreak beginning at Disneyland has continued increasing, most recently to 52 as of Monday night, including a 22-month old girl in Mexico who visited the theme park during the exposure dates. And as expected, misinformation has proliferated online at the same rate as the disease (or perhaps a even more). So as you continue arguing in comment threads and on social media, make sure you have your talking points ready.

1) Two things are driving the spread of measles – and neither is undocumented immigrants.
Those two things are the extreme infectiousness of the disease and the low levels of herd immunity, or community immunity, in pockets of southern California. Measles infects 9 out of every 10 non-immune individuals it finds. It’s airborne and hangs around up to two hours after an infected person leaves the area. It doesn’t take much for this disease to spread through a population that isn’t immune from previous exposure or through vaccination. Or, to put it another way, in an unvaccinated population, each person infected with the measles will transmit the disease to 12 to 18 other people. If no one were vaccinated against measles, we would be up to hundreds, perhaps thousands, of cases by now. We aren’t because there are some levels of herd immunity, but it’s because herd immunity has been weakened that we’re seeing additional cases at all.
2) Everyone is at risk, but especially those unvaccinated. No vaccine can protect 100% of those who receive it. As I explainedlast year, vaccines can fail. The antibodies your body creates can wane, or your body may not have sufficiently responded to the vaccine in the first place. But those who are unvaccinated are at a greater risk by far. An unvaccinated person is 35 times more likely to catch measles than a vaccinated person.
4) The MMR vaccine against the measles is low risk and highly effective.
Protection against measles is delivered within the MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine. The second dose of the vaccine brings its effectiveness up to 99%. It’s a live vaccine, which ramps up the fear factor for some people, but it’s a vaccine we’ve been using since 1971. We have nearly five decades of data with hundreds of millions of vaccinated individuals, and we know precisely what the possible side effects of the vaccine are. The most common ones are a fever in one of six people, a mild rash in one of 20 people, and swollen glands in the cheeks or neck in one of 75 people. In one of every 3,000 doses, a child can experience a seizure caused by high fever, but febrile seizures do not cause any long-lasting damage, and they can be caused by illness (including measles) as well. A condition of low platelets, called ITP, can also occur in one out of 30,000 doses but usually goes away on its own. Any other severe occurrences that have been reported after the vaccine are “so rare that it is hard to tell whether they are caused by the vaccine,” the CDC notes.
5) Measles is a dangerous disease – and it’s not curable (not even with vitamin A).

AirAsia Flight QZ8501. What really happened?

According to the conducted investigations, The AirAsia flight QZ8501 was flying on excessive speed then got stalled.

The AirAsia flight that crashed in the Java Sea, killing 162 people, climbed too fast before stalling, Indonesia's transport minister has said.
Ignasius Jonan told a parliamentary hearing in Jakarta that flight QZ8501 had ascended at a speed of 6,000ft (1,828m) per minute.
He said it was not normal for a passenger jet to climb so fast.
There were no survivors when the plane crashed on 28 December en route from Surabaya to Singapore. The Airbus A320-200 is thought to have encountered difficulties from an approaching storm.Only 53 bodies have been retrieved so far from the crash area, where debris was scattered across the sea.'Faster than a fighter'
Mr Jonan told the hearing that radar data from the moments before the plane was lost revealed its speed of ascent."It is not normal to climb like that. It's very rare for commercial planes, which normally climb just 1,000 to 2,000 feet per minute," he said.
"It can only be done by a fighter jet."

Oil spilled in Yellowstone River up to 50,000 gallons.

The massive oil spill happened crosses the Yellowstone river when the the 12-inch pipeline was ruptured Saturday.
The scenic Yellowstone River has suffered its second sizable oil spill in four years, prompting truckloads of drinking water to be shipped into the eastern Montana city of Glendive. The latest spill is not expected to affect Yellowstone National Park, about 350 miles upstream.
Some oil from the weekend spill got into a water supply intake along the river that serves about 6,000 people in Glendive, according to preliminary tests at the city's water treatment plant. The sample showed elevated levels of volatile organic compounds, predominantly benzene, that would explain the odor in tap water, officials at the plant said. The potential health risks are uncertain until further testing is complete, they said.

A woman died hours after giving birth to quadruplets in Arizona, USA.

It just so sad that this woman lost her life after giving birth to quadruplets and never got a chance to hold them. According to usatoday.com., Morales was more than 31 weeks into her pregnancy when she delivered three girls and one boy Thursday, according to Todman. She has been one of the few able to visit the premature newborns and said they are doing well.
"They're beautiful," Todman said. "They have tubes in their mouths and their noses. They've got little monitors and wires all over their body."
The babies — Erica, Tracey, Paisley and Carlos — will likely remain in the neonatal intensive care unit until doctors deem them healthy and strong enough to leave. Todman said the newborns will reach 40 weeks by about March 24. At birth, they ranged from about 21/2 pounds to more than 3 pounds, she said.
Morales and her husband had been trying to conceive for about three years before becoming pregnant in June after in vitro fertilization. Previously, Morales had tried everything from acupuncture to fertility treatments, Todman said.
"She worked very hard to have the baby," she said. "She did everything, everything she could have done to make sure they are healthy."
Morales, an enrollment counselor at the University of Phoenix, was excited about the pregnancy, Todman said.
"She was really happy to finally be a mom," she said.
Todman, who has been best friends with Morales since childhood, said Morales was more nervous about being a new mother than raising four children at once. Because of a previous miscarriage, Morales was apprehensive about getting too excited about the babies' arrival. She mainly focused on making sure she was doing things correctly throughout her pregnancy, Todman said.

5 year old baby boy shoots brother in head.

This is a shocking news. Parents should be aware of their surroundings. Don't let small children see your gun or perhaps anything that will cause any harm. What do you think?

According to CNN news., The mother called 911 to say her 5-year-old boy shot his baby brother with a paintball gun.
But it wasn't a paintball gun. It was a .22-caliber Magnum revolver. And the 9-month-old boy didn't survive.
Authorities are trying to figure out what led to Monday's shooting in Elmo, in the northwest corner of Missouri.
"At this point foul play is not suspected, and it appears at this time that the shooting was accidental," the Nodaway County Sheriff's Office said.
Sheriff Darren White told CNN affiliate KCTV that the baby was in a playpen when his brother found the gun lying around a bed.
When emergency crews arrived, they found the infant had been shot in the head. The child was flown to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, where he was pronounced dead, the station reported.
Authorities say the gun belongs to a relative, but not the mother. Police are investigating the gun's ownership, KCTV reported.
The mother's other three children are with relatives, according to the station.
The sheriff said guns are rampant in the rural community.
"We are big supporters of firearms around here," White told CNN affiliate KETV. "We have a lot of people that own weapons. They hunt. They target shoot. ... Most people are very safe with them, and this is one of those cases where everything went together in the wrong way."
He added, "We got some guys that work here that have little kids of their own. ... This kind of hits home with them, too. They take it personally."
Though they say the shooting was accidental, authorities have not determined whether charges will be filed against any adult in the case.
At least one nearby resident told KCTV she believes the shooting could have been easily prevented.
According to Project ChildSafe, gun owners should lock unloaded weapons in a safe, vault or cabinet inaccessible to children. Gun locks should be used in addition to safe storage, and ammunition should be locked away separately from any firearm.
Parents should also teach their children that if they find a gun in a house, they should leave it where it is and tell an adult, even if the weapon resembles a toy, the advocacy group says.

AirAsia Flight 8501 lost tail has been found in the Java sea.

Hope they can find anything important before the plane crashed. Praying for the family who are left behind by their loved ones.
Divers retrieved one black box and located the other from the AirAsia plane that crashed more than two weeks ago, a key development that should help investigators unravel what caused the aircraft to plummet into the Java Sea. The two instruments, which emit signals from their beacons, are vital to understanding what brought Flight 8501 down on Dec. 28, killing all 162 people on board. They should provide essential information about the plane and all of the conversations between the captain and co-pilot for the duration of the flight.

Pope Francis proposed marriage at age of 12.

According to the mirror.co.uk., The new Pope’s childhood sweetheart revealed yesterday how she helped him become a priest – by rejecting his marriage proposal.
Amalia Damonte, 77, says she spurned Jorge Bergoglio, 76 when he popped the question at the tender age of 12 because her parents did not think that much of him.
She said it was 1948 or 1949 when the young son of Italian immigrants slipped a love letter in her hand.
She was speaking outside the house she grew up in, four doors down from the former childhood home of Pope Francis where he lived with his mother and railway worker father in Buenos Aires.
Amalia said: “He wrote me a letter telling me that one day he would like to marry me.
“He said that if I didn’t say yes, he would have to become a priest. Luckily for him, I said no!”

Can Pacquiao beat Mayweather Jr? What do you think?

According to boxing trainer Virgil Hunter that if Manny wants to beat Floyd.., Manny should learn to pace himself. What do you think? Leave your comments.
According to GMA news., Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's Hall of Fame trainer, fired the first shot when he said that Pacquiao will easily knock out Mayweather with the way the Filipino ring icon performed against Chris Algieri in their World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title fight last Sunday at the Cotai Arena inside The Venetian Macao.

Pacquiao destroyed Algieri from start to finish, punishing him with six knockdowns that prompted observers to believe that the power and the intensity of the Filipino champion inside the ring is back.

Mayweather, on the other hand, is still fresh off a back-to-back wins over Marcos Maidana in the welterweight class. While their first match was unimpressive, Mayweather showed his brilliance in the second match, even though he still failed to stop the brawler from Argentina.

"Yes, Pacquiao will beat Floyd with his performance against Algieri,” Roach told Filipino sportswriters after the postfight conference. “You know,Floyd about two years ago, I thought it’s about even. Now I think Manny will knock him out.”

Roach's reason: “Floyd can’t run like he used to. He can’t move, his legs are shot, he’s a washed up, old fighter. We’ll knock out Floyd.”

Roach added that he saw the extra bounce in Pacquiao's legs and added snap on his punches against Algieri.

Gas Prices: How low can can they go?

As of today, I am please that I can fill up my tank for less than $30. Few months ago, I have to spend more than $50 to fill up my gas tank. I have no complain about gas prices right now; in fact, this is a great time to save money or spend the money to dine outside with  family.

The question is.., how low gas prices can go? My answer is.., as low as it can get as long as I can save money. This may not be beneficial for some workers but hey.., who does not want gas prices to go even lower? My advice is, be smart!

As of this time, Tucson lowest gas price is $1.76 per gallon.
